About CRJ Bespoke Joinery Services
I'm Craig Jones and I am the main pair of hands behind CRJ Carpentry. In a way, I'm almost an accidental carpenter. It all started with a project in my own parents' home when I was a young man. I must have shown some promise, because the joiner in charge of that build, at home, offered me a job!
From Redundancy To Bespoke Joinery Projects
I spent almost 14 years working as a joiner for that first company and went through a full apprenticeship. I was pretty happy working away with our small team and I felt like the job gave me the cash I needed and enough time to follow my outdoor passions in my leisure time. Most of the work was basic joinery, first fix and second fix in new builds, but not a lot of opportunity to get creative with my woodworking skills.
Nothing lasts forever of course! After almost 14 years, the wrong axe fell. I was made redundant. That, of course, was a blow. But I’m a grafter and I soon found more work. For the next couple of years, I was mostly involved in a huge house renovation at Howtown.
Here, I was involved in a lot of basic carpentry. But, with the age of the house, I got the opportunity to resurrect some of the unused creative carpentry skills that had lain dormant for a long time. My appetite was whetted with this first foray into bespoke joinery in Cumbria's fine old buildings.
CRJ Carpentry
After a couple of years at Howtown I developed a real taste for creating quite bespoke cabinets and joinery. I loved the challenge of the fine skilled work needed in this project. I often had to match the replacement or newly created cupboards and even stair spindles, to the existing woodwork in the house.
I was hooked on the creative challenges, but I also felt a little bit constrained when I was still working for another "boss"... as supportive as he was.
So, I took the plunge to go out on my own and set up CRJ Carpentry in 20015(?) My vision was to create a business where I could make my living creating bespoke joinery across Cumbria and the Lake District.
Now, I've worked in small, terraced houses in Carlisle where the owner wanted a tasteful storage solution that helped them reduce the clutter in their house. I've been lucky enough to be asked to come up with pieces of furniture that fit into really unusual rooms.
From woodsheds that are really personal to the customer to man sheds in a corner of the garden CRJ will create a solution.
